THE POSITION
The Apprentice Mechanic will develop professional mechanical skills through a structured apprenticeship program, supporting the ongoing maintenance and repair of council's diverse vehicle and equipment fleet.
Reporting to Workshop Supervisor, you will:
Undertake formal mechanical trade apprenticeship training through a registered training organisation to complete Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Heavy Vehicle).
Assist qualified mechanics in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of council vehicles and equipment.
Perform routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance tasks.
Maintain accurate and detailed workshop records and job documentation.
Participate in workshop clean-up and equipment maintenance.
Demonstrate a commitment to learning and professional development.
Support team members and contribute to a positive workshop culture ensuring the provision of informed, coordinated and quality services to customers and other Council employees.
Receive and act on work orders and instructions from the Workshop Supervisor or other assigned supervisor.
Operate plant and equipment when required, in a manner that conforms with relevant laws, guidelines and safety requirements, for the purpose of diagnosing faults and testing safety / performance standards during maintenance or repairs.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of workplace practices and services.
Assist with manual handling or labouring work as directed.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have:
Essential
Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in automotive/heavy machinery repairs
Ability to learn and apply technical skills quickly
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement
Safe Work NSW Certificate in General WHS Induction
Minimum Class C driver’s licence (Car Licence)
Desirable
Basic mechanical understanding
Strong attention to detail
