THE POSITION
The Casual Resource Recovery Attendant will direct, and coordinate recycling activities concerned with solid waste disposal at the Glen Innes Materials Recycling Facility (MRF).
Reporting to Coordinator Waste and Resource Recovery, you will:
Maintain a current awareness of Council landfill and resource recovery policies and procedures, as set out in Council’s relevant Landfill Management Plans.
Control traffic movements in and around the recycling and landfill drop off areas, directing incoming vehicles and ensuring safe and orderly usage of the facility by all persons.
Inspect material loads to control disposal activities, minimising the quantity and hazardous types of materials going into the landfill.
Ensure that disposal activities conform to relevant public health regulations and environmental licenses as specified in Council’s Environmental Protection License and report potential incidents to the Coordinator Waste and Resource Recovery.
Operate the vehicle weighbridge and collect relevant fees and charges, issue receipts as required and ensure that payments balance against receipts issued at Glen Innes Landfill.
Observe housekeeping standards and maintain the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and surrounding areas.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have:
Essential
Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and procedures and accurately complete landfill records and other routine forms
Ability to accurately calculate and / or estimate the quantity, weight and volume of materials
Ability and willingness to work weekends on a regular basis
Class C Driver’s License (car license)
Forklift License
Desirable
Previous work / experience in landfill and resource recovery operations
Landfill Operators course
Certificate III in Waste Management
Experience in handling and balancing payment transactions
