THE POSITION     
The Team Leader – Drainage will supervise and coordinate the activities of the drainage team to inspect, maintain and construct Council’s drainage infrastructure.

Reporting to Maintenance Works Coordinator, you will: 

  • Receive and act on written work orders or verbal instructions from the Maintenance Works Coordinator or other assigned supervisor.
  • Oversee the construction and maintenance of drainage assets in the local government area. This includes open drains, pipes, box culverts and other associated infrastructure.
  • Determine work requirements and allocate duties to team members and contractors engaged on projects within the position’s area of control.
  • Complete basic procurement including quantity take-offs, requesting quotes and ordering equipment and materials.
  • Operate plant items such as excavator, backhoe, skid steer loader, rollers, trucks and similar to repair and maintain drainage assets.
  • Ensure that all work conforms to required safety standards, including the completion of site-specific risk assessments and safety training for employees and contractors, installation and maintenance of safety signage, proper maintenance of equipment, review and implementation of Safe Work Method Statements and Traffic Control Plans.
  • Maintain records relevant to the duties of the position, including work diaries, timesheets, daily running sheets, inspection reports, maintenance logs and WHS records.
  • Perform routine inspections, cleaning, maintenance and minor repairs to plant and equipment to maximise the useful life of machines and accessories, including regularly checking oil and hydraulic fluids, changing oil and filters, lubricating parts, and assist Council's workshop staff with major services and repairs as required.
  • Assist new staff or trainees to learn aspects of the job, including plant and equipment operation, construction techniques, record keeping and safety measures.
  • Participate in essential overtime work and callouts as required.
  • Ensure attendance at staff meetings and training courses as directed / required.
  • Perform manual labour tasks as required or directed by supervisor.

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Specifically, you will have:

Essential

  • Class HR driver’s licence (Heavy Rigid)
  • Demonstrated ability to correctly interpret written instructions, procedures and plans and set out works from engineering plans and specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work to levels, and maintain and construct roads using construction equipment
  • Understanding of road drainage best practice management
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to mentor staff in the application of best practice methods in road and urban drainage maintenance
  • An understanding of basic mechanical principles and the ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant and equipment
  • Safe Work NSW WHS General Construction Induction (White Card)

Desirable

  • Certificate III or IV in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance), Frontline Management or similar qualification
  • Certificates/accreditations in:
    • Dogman’s Certificate of Competence
    • Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
    • Traffic Controller/Implement Traffic Control Plans
    • Chainsaw operations (Cross Cutting)
    • Chemical Use
