THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager Governance to lead and manage our governance and risk functions, internal audit, compliance programs, and corporate planning initiatives. This role is crucial in identifying and managing organisational risks, achieving compliance and quality targets, and ensuring the effective implementation of Council’s governance policies and procedures.
Reporting to Director of Corporate and Community Services, you will:
Develop and maintain an internal Legislative and Regulatory Compliance Register.
Review and update Council’s policy register focusing on best practices, risk management, and fraud/corruption prevention.
Compile and prepare annual statutory reports under the Government Information (Public Access) Act (2009).
Act as Public Officer under the Local Government Act (1993) and Privacy Contact Officer under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act (1998).
Coordinate and develop induction and professional development programs for the Mayor and Councillors.
Support Manex by providing clear and concise risk information and advice.
Coordinate the implementation of Council’s risk management system.
Coordinate the delivery of Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework (IPRF) documents.
Act as coordinator for the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).
Liaise with Community Committees of Council and arrange annual training.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have:
Essential:
Degree or graduate qualifications in Commerce, Risk Management, Quality Auditing, Legal, or equivalent
Demonstrated ability to implement and manage corporate compliance, quality control, and/or risk management systems
Experience in Governance, Risk, and/or Corporate Planning
High-level conceptual, analytical, problem-solving, and judgement skills
Superior organisational skills and effective communication skills
Comprehensive understanding of organisational change and government operations
Class C Driver’s Licence
Desirable:
Knowledge of the Australian Auditing Standards
Experience in Local Government
