THE POSITION
The Trainee Facility Maintenance Officer will provide support in the maintenance and management of Council-owned buildings and facilities while undertaking a nationally recognised qualification through a structured traineeship. This role combines practical, on-the-job experience with formal study to develop the skills and knowledge required for a career in facility maintenance and the ability to progress toward a career in the building industry.

Reporting to Manager Recreation and Open Spaces, you will:

  • Assist in the delivery of scheduled and reactive maintenance tasks across Council facilities.
  • Participate in inspections and condition assessments of buildings and infrastructure.
  • Support the coordination of contractors and service providers under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using Council’s systems.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS and environmental standards during all work activities.
  • Attend and complete all required training sessions and coursework as part of the traineeship.
  • Contribute to minor construction, refurbishment, and improvement projects.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have: 

Essential
  • Strong interest in building and construction,
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn new systems

Desirable
  • Previous experience in a trade, construction, or maintenance environment
  • Safe Work NSW WHS General Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence (or ability to obtain)
