About the Role

As an Apprentice Plant Operator, you’ll support civil construction and maintenance activities while completing a Certificate III in Civil Construction – Plant Operations. You’ll gain practical skills, work alongside experienced operators and contribute to projects across the local government area.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Complete on‑the‑job and off‑the‑job training
  • Engage in coaching, feedback and formal learning
  • Apply new skills to improve performance
  • Assist with safe operation of plant and equipment under supervision
  • Participate in road, drainage, construction and maintenance works
  • Support experienced operators and crew members
  • Build competency in plant operation as training milestones are achieved
  • Follow all WHS policies and safe work practices
  • Participate in pre‑start checks, toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Identify hazards and report incidents or unsafe conditions
  • Contribute to environmentally responsible work practices
  • Work effectively as part of a multi‑skilled crew
  • Follow instructions and seek clarification when needed
  • Communicate respectfully with colleagues and the public
  • Assist with inspections, cleaning and basic maintenance
  • Report faults or defects promptly
  • Use tools and equipment safely and correctly

 

About You

You’re motivated, reliable and ready to build a career in civil construction. You will bring:

 

Essential

  • Commitment to completing a plant operator apprenticeship
  • Current NSW Class C Driver Licence
  • Interest in civil construction and outdoor work
  • Positive learning mindset and willingness to take direction
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Reliability, punctuality and strong work ethic
  • White Card (SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction)

 

Desirable

  • Previous exposure to plant, construction or labouring work
  • Traffic Control accreditation
  • Connection to or interest in serving the local community
  • Experience in team‑based or safety‑focused environments
