About the Role
We’re seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager Governance to lead our governance and risk functions, internal audit, compliance programs, and corporate planning initiatives. You’ll play a key role in managing organisational risks, ensuring compliance, and implementing Council’s governance policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain the Legislative and Regulatory Compliance Register
Coordinate the Corporate Governance Policy Framework
Review and update Council’s policy register
Prepare annual statutory reports
Act as Public Officer and Privacy Contact Officer
Develop induction and professional development for Mayor and Councillors
Support risk management and the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC)
Liaise with Community Committees and arrange annual training
About You
Essential:
Extensive demonstrated experience performing comparable governance or integrity functions in a public‑sector or regulated environment
Demonstrated experience leading governance, compliance, policy, privacy and/or information access functions, including the ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulatory frameworks and administrative law in a government, statutory authority or regulated public‑sector context (e.g., local, state or federal information access, privacy, integrity, or accountability frameworks)
Proven ability to implement and maintain organisation‑wide risk management frameworks aligned to recognised standards (e.g., ISO 31000), provide expert risk advice, support internal audit processes, and contribute to or coordinate audit/governance committees
Demonstrated experience in strategic or corporate planning, including coordination of organisation‑wide planning frameworks, reporting, stakeholder or community engagement, and/or service review or evaluation processes within a government or regulated environment
High‑level analytical and judgement skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare clear, authoritative reports and advice, communicate effectively with executives and elected or statutory office‑holders, and manage multiple priorities and complex projects while building strong organisational relationships
Desirable
Tertiary qualifications in Governance, Public Administration, Law, Commerce, Risk Management, Auditing or a related discipline
Experience in NSW local government
Practical understanding of internal audit processes and auditing standards, including experience supporting an Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
Experience in developing and delivering governance training for staff, councillors or community committees
Working knowledge of fraud and corruption control frameworks within the public sector
