About the Role

As the Drainage Team Leader, you will supervise and coordinate the drainage team responsible for maintaining and constructing Council’s drainage and road infrastructure.

 

You will:

  • Lead and coordinate programmed and reactive drainage works across the LGA
  • Allocate tasks, supervise daily operations and mentor staff
  • Support training, induction and skills development
  • Oversee and participate in construction, inspection and maintenance of drainage assets (pipes, culverts, pits, open drains)
  • Operate plant and equipment including excavators, backhoes, loaders and trucks
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, SWMS and Traffic Control Plans
  • Promote a strong safety culture and identify hazards
  • Participate in emergency response, callouts and essential overtime
  • Manage basic procurement, materials ordering and plant coordination
  • Maintain accurate records including timesheets, work diaries and WHS documentation
  • Communicate progress, risks and issues to supervisors and stakeholders

 

Team Leadership:

  • 2 Heavy Plant Operators
  • 1–3 Casual Employees (as required)

 

About You

We are looking for someone with the following:

 

Essential:

  • Current Class MR Driver Licence
  • Demonstrated experience in road and urban drainage construction and maintenance
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and set out works accurately
  • Strong understanding of drainage design, construction and maintenance principles
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capability in a civil construction environment
  • Practical knowledge of plant and equipment operation
  • Strong commitment to WHS and safe systems of work
  • SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction (White Card)

Desirable:

  • Certificate III/IV in Civil Construction, Road Construction & Maintenance, Frontline Management or similar
  • Excavator operation experience
  • Additional certifications (e.g., Dogman, Traffic Control, Chainsaw Operations, Chemical Use, Working Near Live Electrical Apparatus)
