About the role

We currently have an exciting, newly created, opportunity to work within our expanding Dog Services team as our new Assistance Dog Instructor, where you will develop highly skilled Autism Assistance, Assistance and Facility dogs that meet the rigorous standards set by Guide Dogs SA/NT and Assistance Dogs International, to deliver against these programs for clients.

Reporting to the Dog Services Operations Manager, you will work in partnership with our amazingly friendly and supportive dog services team to select and train dogs, conduct client interviews, undertake assessments, deliver class training and after care to clients, prepare written assessment, reports and statistics and recruit, train and support a group of volunteers.

About you

You have sound and trusted experience personally training and teaching others to train dogs and/or assistance dogs utilising positive reinforcement practices.

You are self-motivated and committed to building positive working relationships with your colleagues, clients and community groups and organisations. This role will best suit someone who enjoys variety and end-to-end service provision with a passion for achieving positive outcomes for people living with disability.

  • Cert IV Animal Behaviour and Training and assistance dog training/instructor experience gained through a recognized ADI Organisation.
  • Proven ability to implement and deliver end to end dog and/or assistance dog training programs is essential.
  • Ability to establish credibility and gain the confidence of a wide range of people from a diverse background.
  • Understanding and/or experience working with people on the Autism Spectrum is desirable.
  • Demonstrated skills in time management, setting priorities and planning and organizing own work.
  • Ability to be creative, innovate and flexible to accommodate change.
  • Proven ability to contribute and work collaboratively as part of a team to deliver customer focused outcomes.

A condition of employment of this position is to hold and maintain a current Driver’s License DHS Working With Children Check, NDIS Clearance and Police Clearance.  

Vaccination requirements will apply in accordance with Government and Aged Care requirements.
