Founded in 1989, Wintringham is a not-for-profit organisation providing aged care, housing and support services for men and women aged 50 and over, who have experienced or are vulnerable to homelessness. We currently employ over 850 staff across Hobart, Melbourne, and regional Victoria.


The expansion of our services into Tasmania in 2021 has seen our Tasmanian team provide tenancy and housing support services to five sites across Hobart (172 social housing units), making a difference to the lives of many financially disadvantaged people. We are now proud to soon commence operations at our brand new 40-bed Tasmanian Residential Aged Care Home based in Bellerive that is purpose-built by the Tasmanian Government for older people in need.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of our brand new greenfield residential facility in Bellerive as the Recreation & Lifestyle Coordinator. No two days will be the same in this dynamic role which will coordinate and develop a recreation program designed to meet the individual leisure needs of each resident. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a Recreation & Lifestyle Coordinator role and be able to demonstrate their experience developing programs designed to enhance a person’s independence. To thrive in this role, you will need to possess a non-judgmental attitude and be comfortable with the principals of dignity of risk. Other daily tasks will include:


  • Liaising with other members of the residential team regarding structure and development of programs.
  • Facilitate residents to access venues, events, and recreational opportunities.
  • Rostering of Recreation Officers and Volunteers.
  • Encouraging clients to maintain their community associations and contacts.
  • Ensuring that accurate and relevant documentation is up to date.
  • Ensure the development of Lifestyle Plans, Diversional Therapy Assessments and Individual Programs for each resident.
  • Promote recreational opportunities available within the broader community.
  • Supervising a small team of Recreation Officers with a focus on continuous development.


We are looking for candidates with the following.

The successful applicant will, at minimum, possess a degree level qualification in either - Leisure & Lifestyle, Recreation, Psychology, Community Development, or other relevant degree. A current Tasmanian Drivers Licence. Current First Aid and CPR certificates will be looked on favourably.


  • Experience in recreational program planning and implementation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and tact
  • The ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • Interest in Social Justice Issues - highly valued
  • Experience working with clients who come from a disadvantaged background (highly advantageous)
  • Previous experience in an Aged Care environment (preferred)
  • A non-judgmental attitude
