About the Opportunity

The District Council of Robe is looking for a part-time (0.6 FTE) Work Health & Safety (WHS) Officer based in Robe, South Australia.

As our Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation across the organisation. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, this role is responsible for providing professional WHS advice, implementing effective safety systems, and support to staff, volunteers, and council members enhancing the organisation’s safety culture and wellbeing outcomes.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitating WHS reporting, audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
  • Maintaining WHS systems and documentation, including Skytrust functions and registers
  • Coordinating and delivering WHS training, inductions, and capacity-building initiatives
  • Supporting return-to-work and rehabilitation processes in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Promoting a positive safety culture through collaboration and proactive initiatives
  • Assisting in the development and execution of WHS management plans and KPIs
  • Providing detailed reports and updates to the Leadership Team, staff, and key stakeholders

About You

To qualify, you will need a minimum of a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. A minimum of 2 years experience in a WHS or related role will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Knowledge of WHS legislation and the Return to Work Act
  • Proficiency in Skytrust (or similar safety management tools)
  • Strong research, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Mental Health First Aid certification
  • Local government experience is highly regarded but not essential
