Wintringham is a specialised non-religious not-for-profit welfare organisation. We are committed to providing older people who are at risk or have experienced homelessness with a range of high-quality care, housing, and support services. We employ more than 1,000 staff across Victoria and Tasmania.

 

Your new role

We are currently seeking a proactive individual to join our Housing and Homelessness Team as a Housing and Homelessness Support Worker (HHSW) (office based in East Bentleigh) on an ongoing Part time Basis.

Reporting to the HHS Co-Ordinator and in collaboration with our Practice Lead, you will assist some of our communities most vulnerable people to create a meaningful life, supporting them through independent living, community engagement and recovery, linking and referring them into clinical services, social, and recreational activities.

Your roster will be as below:

Week 1: Tuesday (0900 – 1500) and Wednesday (0900 – 1500)

Your responsibilities and duties will also include:

  • Undertaking client directed case management regarding access to aged care related services; assist to access to Home Care Packages (HCP) residential aged care facility and the NDIS.
  • Assisting client to maintain or find appropriate affordable housing
  • Provide advocacy, referral assistance.  
  • Responding to client feedback and complaints in line with Wintringham policy and procedures.
  • Facilitating and encouraging the engagement of social supports.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships within sectors to assist access other services and systems.
  • Working collaboratively with the other support agencies, Housing connect and team members to ensure the best possible outcomes for the client.
  • Working closely with our tenancy team members regarding the tenants in our managed properties.

We are looking for candidates with the following:

  • A qualification in Social Work or Community Services or equivalent.
  • A current Victorian drivers licence and willingness to travel to various housing sites.
  • Experience in a support worker role in Case Management with specific training and/or experience in case management practices, stakeholder engagement,  networking, case conferencing,
  • Experience in working effectively and sensitively with a broad range of clients, including those with high support needs and challenging behaviours.
  • An understanding of the Housing Connect system, Housing and Homelessness Service sector, social housing, My Aged Care, NDIS, mental health, and drug and alcohol services in Victoria.
  • An understanding of a tenancy management approach within a support framework.
  • Proven commitment to excellence, accountability, and innovation in best practice service delivery in the fields of homelessness and housing support.
  • Well-developed communications skills and the ability to with engage sector stakeholders at a service delivery level.
  • First Aid Certificate.

Applicants who have lived in a country other than Australia for a period longer than 12 months in the last 10 years may be required to undergo an International Police Check.

Successful candidates will be required to comply with the Wintringham Health and Immunisation policy including having three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine as well as a 2024 Influenza Immunisation vaccination before commencing employment and must provide evidence.
