Senior Project Architect

Job No: ICA100
Location: Melbourne - Collingwood

You've been building your career. What if your next role was the one that changed everything?

You've spent years sharpening your craft - leading projects, solving problems no one else could crack and turning ambitious ideas into built reality.

You're not just looking for another job. You're looking for the right place to do your best work.

A place where your leadership actually matters. Where design ambition isn't just a pitch deck, it's the culture. Where the people around you push you to be better and you do the same for them.

Sound like what you've been waiting for?

Let's cut to it.

We're i2C, an Architecture and Interior Design practice with studios in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We work as a collective of design professionals who genuinely believe that great outcomes come from great teams, not lone heroes.

We're looking for a Senior Project Architect to join our Melbourne studio - someone who can take ownership of complex Retail and Mixed Use projects, inspire a team and deliver outstanding results from first sketch to final handover. Whether it be the own office culture or the impact a designs has on the wider community, inspiring ideas to enhance life experience is at the core of our practice ethos, and something that should resonate with you.

This is a full-time, permanent role.

This role is for you if you:

  • Thrive on leading Retail and Mixed Use projects end-to-end — from feasibility and design development right through to construction and handover
  • Understand the unique demands of the retail environment — tenant coordination, centre management relationships, staging and trading requirements
  • Can navigate the complexity of mixed use developments — balancing competing uses, stakeholders and approval pathways
  • Get a genuine buzz from mentoring and growing a team around you
  • Can hold your own in a room full of clients, consultants and contractors — and bring everyone along for the ride
  • Balance creative ambition with commercial reality — and make it look easy
  • Take pride in the details without losing sight of the big picture

What you'll bring:

  • Registered Architect with 7+ years' post-registration experience (or equivalent). All candidates with strong relevant experience will be considered
  • Established and proven experience in the Retail and/or Mixed Use sectors, managing projects from proposal and bid preparation through to construction and commission completion
  • Advanced understanding of the full project lifecycle, including fee proposals, team resourcing, programmes and budgets
  • Strong working knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards, and relevant state and local planning regulations
  • Proficiency in Revit with solid skills across SketchUp and other design and documentation tools, demonstrated Australian project experience over your career to date
  • Excellent communication skills - you know how to listen, how to lead a conversation, and how to keep stakeholders aligned
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously without dropping the ball
  • A critical, design-led mindset that stays active from concept through to completion

What's in it for you:

  • Work on some of Australia's best Retail and Mixed Use projects with industry-leading clients
  • A genuinely collaborative culture - our teams support each other across studios and state lines
  • Serious investment in your professional growth - regular workshops, learning sessions and development pathways
  • Opportunities for interstate and international travel
  • We're B-Corp Certified - one of only a handful of architectural practices in the country committed to making a lasting positive impact
  • In-house Sustainable Design expertise including Passive House certified designers, Regenerative Practitioners and Green Star professionals
  • Dedicated counselling and coaching support for every team member
  • A progressive Families Policy that supports everyone's circumstances
  • 2 volunteer days per year to give back to a cause you care about
  • Birthday falls on a weekday? Take the day off - on us

Our values are built on care, collaboration and curiosity, and we derive great pride from contributing to the wider community through our skills and talent, both professional and personal. i2C helps others to change their world by continually challenging our own.

We strive to reflect the diverse identities, experiences and geographies of the communities we serve and welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and abilities to join our team.

The i2C team acknowledge that we gather, live, work and design on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands.
