Applications are invited for the position of Building Surveyor, based at Council's Administration Centre.  The successful applicant shall be responsible to: -

  • Process applications for Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and Development Applications on behalf of Council.
  • Undertake Principal Certifying Authority (PCA) functions on behalf of Council to ensure compliance with Development Consents, the Building Code of Australia and relevant standards.
  • Undertake building compliance and enforcement functions on behalf of Council.
  • Undertake Project Management roles on behalf of Council where no conflict exists with certification responsibilities.

Applicants should address the following Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and experience in Building Surveying which will provide eligibility for accreditation by NSW Fair Trading, Building Surveyor Restricted (All classes of Building);
  • NSW Class C Drivers Licence or equivalent as a minimum;
  • SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card ('White Card');
  • Demonstrated experience in the role of Building Surveyor;
  • Demonstrated high level of ability to prepare and present reports and submissions and to formulate recommendations;
  • Highly developed communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to liaise, consult, negotiate with and advise a range of stakeholders on building and development related matters; 
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to undertake the process of researching, planning, organising and reporting within specified time frames and with limited supervision;
  • A sound working knowledge of the legislation and standards associated with the role of a Building Surveyor. This would include but is not limited to the Building Code of Australia, associated Australian Standards, the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and the Local Government Act 1993; and
  • Knowledge of computer systems including familiarity with word processing, Excel and the Internet;

Desirable:

  • Accreditation by NSW Fair Trading, Building Surveyor-Unrestricted;
  • At least four (4) years experience as a Building Surveyor;
  • Experience in processing applications for and inspections for the installation and operation of on-site sewage management systems;
  • Experience in environmental health related matters;
  • Knowledge of sanitary plumbing and drainage; and 
  • Development Control Planning experience.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023.  The classification for the position will be up to Professional/Specialist Band 3, Level 3, Grade 16.  Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,826.10 to $1,966.43 gross per week.
