Development Services Assistant

Applications are invited for the position of Development Services Assistant, based at Council's Administration Centre.  The successful applicant shall be responsible to the Manager Development Services for assisting with the administrative management of Development Applications, Construction Certificates and other related applications. 

The position will also be responsible for providing a wide range of support services both internal and external to the Development Services Branch.  Other duties within Council’s Environmental Services Division as nominated from time to time will also be required.

Essential:

Qualifications

  • Higher School Certificate or equivalent OR NSW School Certificate/ Record of School Achievement and satisfactory experience in administration.
  • NSW Class C Drivers Licence at a minimum.

Skills and Experience

  • Highly developed communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to liaise, consult, negotiate with and advise a range of stakeholders on building and development related matters.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to undertake the process of researching, planning, organising and reporting at an administrative level within specified time frames and with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of computer systems including familiarity with word processing, Excel and the Internet.

 Desirable:

 Skills and Experience

  • A basic knowledge of Local Government Act 1993 and related Regulations and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and related Regulations applicable to the management and development of land within the Inverell Shire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of land use issues as they relate to the Shire.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023.  The classification for the position will be up to Operational Band 1, Level 4, Grade 8.  Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,225.72 to $1,320.01 gross per week.
