Waste Operator

Applications are invited for the position of Waste Operator, based at Council's Inverell Landfill.  The successful applicant shall be responsible to carry out Landfill Depot and waste management operations, assist in the operation of Council’s weighbridge and provide assistance to the public and contractors entering the Landfill.  The position will also involve the operation and maintenance of Council’s hooklift truck, loader, forklift, waste and recycling collection trucks.  The position may require working on weekends and public holidays on a roster system.

Applicants should address the following Selection Criteria:

 Essential Criteria:

  • Hold competent numeracy and literacy skills.
  • NSW Class HR Drivers Licence.
  • Significant truck driving experience.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience and sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card (‘White Card’).
  • Ability to operate computers and other office equipment
  • Understanding of WHS requirements.
  • National WHS Certification Standard as required for and/ or Statement of Attainment and/ or extensive experience operating Front End Loader.
  • National Licence to perform High Risk Work for Forklift (LF).
  • Willingness to undertake training in weighbridge/ landfill operations.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy plant.
  • Capable of identifying and sorting waste material and to undertake general labouring duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small machinery such as mowers etc.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Understanding waste management practices and awareness of different waste classifications.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • National WHS Certification Standard as required for and/ or Statement of Attainment and/ or extensive experience operating Excavator, or ability to attain Statement of Attainment within six (6) months of commencement.
  • Competence to operate Landfill Compactor, or demonstrated capacity to acquire competence within three (3) months of commencement.
  • Experience in the operation of a robotic arm waste collection truck.
  • National WHS Certification Standard as required for and/ or Statement of Attainment and/ or extensive experience operating Front End Loader of the Skid Steer Type, or ability to attain Statement of Attainment within six (6) months of commencement.
  • Safe Work near Overhead Power Lines Certificate.
  • Previous experience in a similar field.

 

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2020.  The classification for the position will be up to Operational Band 1, Level 3, Grade 4.  Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,075.30 to $1,148.19 gross per week.  In addition a Level 2 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $1.327 per hour will be paid where applicable.
