Inverell Shire Council is looking for someone like you for the role of Health and Building Surveyor. The Health and Building Surveyor performs a number of public heath and building control functions on behalf of Council, and the primary focus of the role is ensuring that building works comply with legislation, codes and standards, and provides advice and assistance to the public to support safe, health and compliant development in the Inverell area.

About the role As a key member of the environmental services team, the Health and Building Surveyor provides or supports the delivery of a variety of services to the Inverell Community, including but not limited to:
Remuneration shall range from $1,615.10 to $2,025.43 gross per week. |

The following selection criteria shall be considered as part of your application:
Essential:
- Graduate Diploma in Building Surveying or equivalent qualification enabling accreditation as a Local Government Building Surveyor or tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or equivalent.
- Accreditation as a Local Government Building Surveyor under relevant legislation.
- NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Building Code of Australia, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Food Act 2003, Public Health Act 2010 and the Local Government Act 1993, and relevant building, plumbing and drainage codes.
- Experience using a range of computer software packages including word processing, spread sheets, data bases etc.
- High degree of interpersonal skills including experience in managing difficult situations and negotiating outcomes.
- Understanding of and demonstrated capacity to deliver good customer service.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety issues as they relate to the position.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports and correspondence.
Desirable:
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated capacity to prepare reports on technical matters relating to environmental health field.
- Experience undertaking inspections and assessments for Building Certificates and Complying Development Certificates.
- Experience in formulating, developing, implementing, and reviewing Council codes, policies, and standard operating procedures related to building control and public health.
- Two (2) years’ experience in a similar role.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023. The classification for the position is Professional/ Specialist Band 3, Level 2 to Band 3, Level 3, Grades 13 to 16, Columns 1 to 4. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,615.10 to $2,025.43 gross per week.
