Inverell Shire Council is looking for someone like you for the role of Trainee Building Surveyor. The Trainee Building Surveyor provides assistance to Council's Building Surveyors and will gain on-the-job experience while undertaking study that will lead to their accreditation as a Building Surveyor. It is a focus of the role that building works comply with legislation, codes and standards.

 

About the role

As a key member of the development services team, the Trainee Building Surveyor provides or supports the delivery of a variety of services to the Inverell Community, including but not limited to:

  • Providing direct assistance to Council's Building Surveyors to ensure that building works comply with the Building Code of Australia.
  • Undertake specific on-site inspections on building sites and swimming pool fencing at the direction of the Manager Development Services.
  • Assist with the coordination of works and maintenance on Council buildings.
  • Maintain relevant records in Council's systems, including Applications, Licences, Inspections and the database of essential fire safety safety services.
  • Serve as a mentor to Council's trainee staff, developing the next generation of specialists.
  • Promote awareness and education of public health and building issues.

Remuneration shall range from $947.70 to $1,176.80 gross per week, based on study progression.

The following selection criteria shall be considered as part of your application:

Essential:

  • NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent.
  • NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Partial completion or capacity to enrol in and complete the Diploma of Building Surveying qualification.
  • Experience using a range of computer software packages including Microsoft Work and Excel, and database operation.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills including experience in managing difficult situations and negotiating outcomes.
  • Understanding of and demonstrated capacity to deliver good customer service.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety issues as they relate to the position.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports and correspondence.
  • SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card ('White Card'), or ability to obtain one.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the local community.
  • Industry related experience and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Local Government issues and operations.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023.  The classification for the position is Operational Band 1, Level 1, Trainee Grade 5 to Trainee Grade 9.  Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $947.70 to $1,176.80 gross per week.
