Inverell Shire Council is looking for an individual to join the Construction Reticulation Section of our Civil Engineering team in the role of Medium Excavator Operator, and will be responsible for the day to day operation of an excavator carrying our a variety of earthmoving and construction operations around Inverell Shire.

 

About Inverell Shire Council and the Civil Services team

Under the direction of Council's Manager Civil Engineering, Council's Civil Services team is responsible for a variety of tasks in the support of the Inverell Shire Council's services to the community:

  • Construction and ongoing maintenance of a variety of Council assets including roads, stormwater pipes, bridges, parks and gardens and a variety of other assets!
  • Performing road maintenance and repair services for Inverell and surrounding communities.
  • Our grader operators form a part of a larger team, including other specialist plant operators, tradespeople, labourers and contractors with a number of specialities.
  • Provide support to other areas of Council in our day-to-day operations, which can range from routine maintenance and construction, and even extends to emergency and disaster response, event support and more.

Applications are invited for the position of Medium Excavator Operator, based at Council's Inverell Works Centre. The successful applicant shall be responsible for the satisfactory execution of roads and drainage maintenance by a grader on projects undertaken by the Civil Engineering Branch.  Construction grading may also be required to be carried out on an occasional basis.

Applicants should address the following Selection Criteria:

 Essential Criteria:

 NSW School Certificate/ Record of School Achievement or acceptable education standard.
• Trade Certificate in Excavator operations, or unit of competency in excavator operations and satisfactory experience in civil construction and/ or maintenance.
NSW Class MR Drivers Licence.
• SafeWork NSW Traffic Controller accreditation.
• SafeWork NSW Implement Traffic Control Plans accreditation.
SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card (‘White Card’).

Desirable Criteria:

• Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker unit of competency.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2026.  The classification for the position will be up to Operational Band 1, Level 3, Grade 5, and salary will be in a range from $1,145.15 to 1,228.61 gross per week in accordance with qualifications and experience. In addition, a Level 1 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $0.534 per hour will be paid where applicable.
