Can you have a laugh and stay three steps ahead?
We are building a small, purpose-built support team around a woman in her 50’s with plenty of personality, a rockabilly streak, and a family love for motorbikes and music and goals that are about living well, maintaining independence and continuing to build capacity.
We are looking for a mature minded, dynamic female. Someone who notices things, isn’t easily rattled, has initiative, and is great at maintaining situational awareness. A person who can sit down over coffee and help turn an idea into a daily plan. Who can head out for the day and be thinking about mobility, fatigue, cognition, safety and opportunity without making the day feel like a therapy session. Someone who understands the difference between assisting and taking over.
Support Duties:
- Everyday living, including daily planning and organisation
- Community participation
- Functional exercise, strength and rehabilitation programs
- Providing personal care assistance in a respectful manner
- All the ordinary things that keep a person as independent as possible
The lady, her household and extended family are lively and dynamic. There is humor. There is banter. You’ll need to be at ease with frank conversations, colorful language and irreverent humor while maintaining your own professionalism. Family is the most important aspect of life and you will need to work in well with a group of people. There are also dogs and birds so you must be comfortable supporting around both.
We are looking for someone who:
- thinks of their feet and reads a room well
- isn’t sensitive to colorful language
- is calm and confident
- asks “how can she do more of this herself” before stepping in
- can follow professional and therapeutic recommendations without turning everyday life into a clinical program
- understands that informed support requires curiosity, awareness and adaptability
- can have genuine fun while remaining switched on
- wants to learn, develop and become exceptionally good at supporting one person well
- is a confident, safe and defensive driver – she has her own wheelchair accessible van
Prior to her accident she loved to ride her motorbike and was an active member of community groups, rode horses, was an avid swim instructor, a self-proclaimed gym junkie. She worked with machinery and was a practical, problem solver. Now she is rebuilding her life and enjoys going to the markets, bush-rolling, shopping at Bunnings, spending time with her family and is working hard at her rehabilitation programs.
Shifts:
- Mondays - 9:30am - 5:30pm
- Wednesdays - 9:30am - 5:30pm
- Fortnightly Thursdays - 9:30am - 5:30pm
- Fill in shifts when support staff are on leave
Requirements:
- Mature-minded female
- Pet friendly / comfortable around dogs and birds
- Experience with disability support work (preferred but not essential, training provided)
- Valid Open Driver’s license
- NDIS Worker Screening (or willing to obtain)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (or willing to obtain)
- Blue Card - Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)
- National Police Check (or willing to obtain)
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification (or willing to obtain)
Pay rates:
- Monday to Friday 6am to 8pm shift - $39.50 per hour
- Monday to Friday 8pm - 6am shift - $44.24 per hour
- Saturday - $55.30 per hour
- Sunday - $71.10 per hour
- Public Holidays - $86.90 per hour
