Log Marshalling (Gisborne) - Multiple positions available

We are currently recruiting for the below positions in our Gisborne Log Marshalling Operations.

Checkpoint Supervisor:

This is a salaried position and requires availability for shift work and occasional weekends.  You will be responsible for overseeing the daily running of the checkpoint, managing a team of skilled log scalers and overseeing the weighbridge operation.  The successful candidate will have experience managing a team and leading by example.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor data entry accuracy
  • Manage the performance and development of staff
  • Ensure ticketing and scaling follow the NZQA standard
  • Manage and maintain staffing levels

Attributes required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive approach
  • Proven experience as a team leader/supervisor
  • Previous experience in checkpoint/weighbridge operations a plus
  • Computer literacy and excellent administrative skills

Checkpoint Data Entry Operators:

We are looking to employ skilled Data Entry Operators with strong analytical and administrative skills to join our checkpoint operation.  These roles are very hands on and are responsible for the day-to-day running of ISO Checkpoint applications as they relate to data entry, and applications support.  These positions require a strong sense of both self-motivation and team camaraderie, a personal conviction to complete high data input quality within strict time constraints.

  • High speed and accuracy with data entry
  • Organizational skills

Log Scalers/Log Ticketers:

These roles are responsible for the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of measuring export logs by bar-coding and measuring logs arriving into the log yard daily, this data is then transferred tour Inventory Management System.  These roles are very hands-on and requires those candidates who have great teamwork skills and are accurate in their work.  Ideally for Log Scaler applicants having the scaling module would be preferred.  For Log Ticketer applicants some previous experience working in the forest industry is preferred but not essential.

  • Good mathematics and communication skills
  • Own transport and minimum restricted license

Machine Operators – Material Handlers/Pivot Steer Operators

These are challenging operator’s roles and preference will be given to those candidates with proven log handling experience and/or forestry background.  Others with extensive Material Handling operating skills from a civil construction industry will also be considered. 

TT Drivers

These truck driving roles include carting logs on a truck tractor unit towing semi-trailers from storage areas at Gisborne Port, as well as transferring logs from stack to the ship for ship loading process.

For the machine operating and truck driving roles all candidates must have: Class 2 license with W endorsement, be a safety focused operator, strong work ethic and have a positive can-do attitude.

Yard Coordinator:

The Yard Coordinator has a key role in the Log Marshalling operations with a wide variety of responsibilities.  The key purpose of the role however is to consistently deliver excellence and accuracy in the handling of export logs on behalf of ISO Limited.  You will be responsible for the accuracy and efficiency of storage in the log yard and maintaining accurate yard plans displaying current row locations.  The Yard Coordinator will assist the manager in planning and managing the loading of vessels arriving at the port as well as performing post vessel reconciliations and log yard checks.  The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, computer and administrative skills and have a solid understanding of log marshalling practices.  This role is very hands on and will require you to assist with the check-point, log scaling and the operations of plant and equipment in the log yards as and when required.

All candidates must be able to work flexible hours and be available and on-call to work weekends as required to support a busy 24/7 marshalling operation.
