We are seeking a Pastoral Care Coordinator to join the friendly and supportive teams at our Juniper Bethavon Residential Aged Care Facility in Northam and our Juniper The Residency Residential Aged Care Facility in Northam. Juniper Bethavon is a 33 bed facility and Juniper the Residency is a 45 bed facility. Both sites pride themselves on a homely atmosphere and community feel. Ongoing close relationships are built between long-term staff, residents, their families, and the local community.
Whilst working as a Pastoral Care Coordinator you will direct pastoral and spiritual support and coordinate the provision of these services to our residents, clients, staff and volunteers. We have residents across both sites with differing requirements, some of whom have dementia, and you will need to be flexible and empathetic, with the ability to communicate effectively in all situations.
There is a permanent part-time position available, with 30 hours per fortnight on offer for the successful candidate to be worked across both residential sites. Days of work will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities of this role
- Provide appropriate pastoral and spiritual care in response to identified needs and referrals
- Promote holistic, person-centred care by assessing and evaluating residents’ spiritual needs to enhance their spiritual fulfilment
- Coordinate appropriate responses to needs through the direct provision of support or by arranging and facilitating other relevant services
- Develop strong collaborative relationships with staff and volunteers involved in the care of individuals and provide support to family members ensuring a team approach to pastoral and spiritual care
- Prepare and conduct weekly church services that embrace multi-faith perspectives
- Prepare and conduct memorial services as required
- Develop local resources for site to utilise in end of life scenarios
- Liaise with organisations of other religions to arrange services at the Northam facilities
- Comply with Juniper values, policies and procedures and work within a Christian ethos
The knowledge, skills and experience required
- Completion of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) – desirable
- Experience in a pastoral care role, preferably within an aged care or health setting
- Able to exercise an impartial pastoral ministry to aged people, regardless of race, creed or faith, including an awareness of the core tenets of the main Christian denominations and major world religions
- Pastoral or theological training or qualifications (or training in a related field)
- Membership of the Centre for Ageing and Pastoral Studies and/or Spiritual Care Australia and/or the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education of WA - well regarded
