Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Classified Plant Engineer to join the Maintenance Engineering team based at the Karara Mine Site. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of Classified Plant including itinerant and fixed plant around KML mine site. This position will be responsible for conducting inspections and recording entries of the condition and status of items of Classified Plant to ensure compliance with site and Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety regulations.

**The successful applicant must have a strong mechanical engineering background with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of iron ore mining and mineral processing operations**

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

Key responsibilities;

  • Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994, Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995, Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996
  • Competent in conducting Statutory inspections and writing up record book entries
  • Experience & knowledge of inspecting fixed plant including bridge, semi gantry, gantry cranes, vehicle hoists, vehicle loading cranes, pressure vessels, dryers and compressors
  • Experience & knowledge of inspecting itinerant classified plant including mobile cranes, all terrain, slewing, pick and place, elevating work platforms, and compressors
  • Support operations and maintenance to improve equipment reliability
  • Provide engineered solutions to complex equipment problems
  • Participate in the identification, development and implementation of relevant improvement projects
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to communicate the opportunities of the most value adding jobs
  • Provide rapid and effective support to the business to identify and rectify issues in classified plant
  • Review all engineering work requests in a timely and consistent manner and undertake the development as required, ensuring that all engineering work is compliant with Australian Standards and other regulatory requirements
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide and facilitate failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) with maintenance and production personnel
  • Ensure drawings, specifications and scopes of work documentations are relevant and adequately reviewed
  • Alongside the Supervisors review work execution and identify areas where work quality does not meet KML expectations
  • Review preventative and predictive maintenance systems and identify areas for continuous improvement to deliver better equipment performance
  • Follow the KML Change Management Record process to develop and implement any improvements to equipment

 

Essential qualifications & experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Demonstrated experience in similar Mechanical/Reliability Engineering role within the mining industry
  • Experience & knowledge of inspection from conducting regulatory authority statutory inspections, non-statutory inspections, duty of care inspections, and accident/ incident inspections of classified plant.
  • Knowledge of AS1418, AS2550, AS1554, AS1210, AS/NZS3788, AS1657, MSIR
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis work process methods and tools.
  • Practical statistical analysis skills, including failure statistics, failure rates, hazard rates and life expectancy.
  • Understanding of condition monitoring technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, non-destructive testing, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies.
  • Experience in the mining industry.
  • Demonstrable success in the application of engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementation of processes.
  • Solid verbal, written and reporting communication skills
