Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
We are seeking an experienced candidate for the role of Senior Electrical Engineer - Projects. This role forms part of a small team providing the successful candidate with the ability to be involved in a range of activities and have greater responsibility whilst working autonomously.
The primary purpose of the role is to ensure projects are implemented in a safe, timely and cost effective manner to meet technical requirements and minimise plant downtime. Success in this role requires in-depth knowledge of Electrical engineering principles and application of sound project management processes for Greenfields and/or brownfields projects
Offered on a 2 year fixed term contract, the successful candidate will be self-motivated, ability to work on own initiative, have confidence to work amongst Site and Perth management personnel and also work in the field to supervise construction.
This position will initially (first 6 months) work a 5:2 roster based in Perth with site travel as required and will then move to FIFO on 5:2 4:3 9:5 roster or on a roster agreed with the Project Manager.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure electrical, instrumentation and controls components of projects comply with statutory and regulatory requirements, company policies and procedures
- Develop project Electrical, Instrumentation and Control deliverables including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, Loop Diagrams, Lists and Calculations.
- Develop scopes of work and specifications for equipment supply and construction packages.
- Ensure budget, cost control and schedule targets are met.
- Coordinate, plan and schedule the ongoing construction and commissioning.
- Provide on-site construction and commissioning supervision and technical support.
- Assist other members of the Projects department.
- Ensure the stakeholders have correct and updated information to best perform their functions.
- Work with all areas to reduce power consumption and improve efficiency.
- Actively seek opportunities to improve Electrical, Instrumentation and Control system design with a focus on the improved use of equipment and installation methodology.
- Identify and communicate to appropriate personnel any issues or incidents during each phase of project development and execution.
- Maintain effective communication lines with relevant internal and external stakeholders, ensuring they remain informed and engaged.
- Proactively contribute to improving project systems and procedures.
- Seek out and drive opportunities for continuous improvement in all aspects of work
Key requirements:
- A Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional registration an advantage
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the engineering and design of Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (E&IC) systems
- Experience working with multi-discipline engineering and project teams in a mining environment
