We currently have an opportunity for a Compliance Officer to join the Environment and Compliance Team. As a Compliance Officer you will get to:
- Effectively undertake the functions and duties of the Compliance Team.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Council’s Integrated Planning as it relates specifically to the Environmental Services department in areas of development compliance, public health, environmental protection, monitoring, development compliance, private stormwater compliance, companion animals and parking compliance.
- Assist with ensuring Council meets its legislative, Delivery and Operational Plans services and programs
- Provide efficient and effective customer service in accordance with adopted policies and standards and promote a better understanding of Councils regulatory role within the community
What we offer...
- Permanent full time, 38 hours per week (A job share arrangement will be considered for this role - if applicable)
- Annual salary from $72,316.40 to $86,515 (salary is dependent on qualifications, skills and experience)
- Plus 11.5 % superannuation

What you'll need to be successful in the role...
- Possession of a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent qualification.
- Successful completion of, or willingness to undergo, appropriate training for conducting swimming pool compliance assessments.
- Holding a current and valid class C driver’s license.
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience in Local Government enforcement, with a robust understanding of compliance legislation, including but not limited to:
- Public Space (Unattended Property) Act 2021
- The Local Government Act 1993
- Companion Animals Act 1998 and Regulations
- Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1979 and Regulations
- The Roads Act 1993 and Regulations
- Road Rules 2014
- Road Transport Act 2013
- Environment Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Regulations
- State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008
- Demonstrated proficiency in conducting intricate investigations.
- Ability to analyse complex compliance issues and draft comprehensive breach reports, including recommendations for resolution.
- Proficiency in preparing statements of evidence, affidavits, and representing Council as an expert witness in both Local and Land and Environment Court proceedings.
- Experience in drafting various documents such as correspondence, reports, notices, and orders, as well as maintaining accurate records.
- Proven communication and consultation skills to effectively engage with the public, other Council departments, and legal representatives.
- Proficiency in using computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS, email, as well as operating mainframe database and records management systems.
- Availability to work weekends and be on-call for after-hours duty as required.
