The Opportunity: HPE Teacher

As part of our team of multidisciplinary teachers, your primary responsibility will be to instill enthusiasm, focus, and dedication in your students, with a view to grow their sporting prospects through curricular and extra-curricular sporting opportunities.

An Established, Thriving, and Growing Sports Program

Our dominant sports are:

  • Rugby 7s (we share a carpark with the local rugby field);
  • Mountain Biking (competing and placing in Nationals in recent years. We have our own local track and program);
  • Basketball, and;
  • Netball 

We also have:

  • A growing outdoor program including kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking;
  • An affiliated Human Movement Specialist who is also a qualified Sports Medicine Technician and Registered Paramedic; 
  • A well-equipped and active gymnasium;
  • Access to the Surf Lifesaving Queensland Secondary School Surf League and Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Centre;
  • Strong connections with Mackay Netball Association, Mackay Basketball, Mackay Indoor Sports Arena, Oztag, Futsal, and PCYC

About You

This position is a perfect next step for an HPE teacher with aspirations for growth and leadership. You will have the exciting prospect of stepping into Sports Coordinator, with a demonstrated passion and team growth skills. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Proactively organise your classes and maintain quality care and discipline of students, maintaining a high standard of student work;
  • Evaluate and assess progress of each student, reporting to parents via written and verbal communication;
  • Attend staff meetings, parent/teacher meetings, interviews, worship, and staff devotions;
  • Attend in-service courses and out-of-hours school functions as required;
  • Carry out rostered playground duties and report maintenance needs

Additionally, you will periodically provide budgetary reporting and propositions, assist with equipment and resourcing reconciliation, and develop rapport with our affiliated stakeholders and networks.

You will enhance the MCC team with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification i.e. BA Secondary Education or BA Sport & Exercise Science + post-graduate qualification in Secondary Education;
  • Queensland Teacher's Registration or eligibility to obtain;
  • An optimistic, proactive, and innovative approach bolstered by demonstrated community or curricular sports involvement, and;
  • A willingness to teach and exude our CLEAR values.

Facilitating Growth

King’s Park has rapidly developed since it was established in 1988, and currently caters for students Year 7 – 12. Mackay Christian College caters for students from Early Learning Centre (Kindy) to Year 12.

The College is located in tropical North Queensland and spans across two campuses, ‘King’s Park’ & ‘Providence’. King’s Park and Providence campuses are located within 850m of each other making travel between the two campuses very quick and easy to navigate.
