The role & you

MidCoast Council's Community Spaces department is responsible for managing over three thousand hectares of parks and open spaces, twenty-six sporting complexes, eighty-four playgrounds, thirty-two cemeteries, and five hundred and sixty Council buildings. 

Our Open Spaces and Recreation team are currently seeking a full-time team member. This position is based from our Tuncurry depot and contributes to Council work programs at our sports fields, parks, cemeteries, reserves, and other community spaces. Working in a small crew, you will carry out maintenance and cleaning duties on BBQs, picnic facilities and amenities and undertake construction, maintenance and installation of open space assets such as playgrounds, picnic tables, benches and retaining walls.

The successful candidate will be a team player with a friendly, professional attitude, good communication skills, and a strong understanding of safe working practices. 

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of parks and reserves maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in operation of horticultural plant and equipment such as ride on lawn mowers, tractors and brush cutters.
  • Completed WorkCover accredited course in WHS general induction for construction work in NSW, including a demonstrated sound knowledge of Work, Health and Safety procedures and experience in the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (P1 minimum).
  • Currently hold or willing to obtain a First Aid Certificate and AQF Level 3 Chemical Certificate.

Please note that to be a successful candidate you'll be required to complete a pre-employment medical check to ensure you can carry out the essential requirements for the role.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $50,640 p.a. plus superannuation (salary negotiable based on skills and experience).

Location: Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the MidCoast Council Depot located at Grey Gum Road, Tuncurry. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region. 

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time 38 hours per week.
