MCC are seeking interest in current employees to assist and perform some functions of the LEMO (Local Emergency Management Officer) during 24/7 emergency events and when the LEMO is on short term leave.

Why get involved?

The Deputy LEMO position will assist/coordinate and divert Council resources to respond in the communities' times of need.

The position undertakes the critical role of:

  • Council’s liaison officer for disaster response with other emergency services such as police, fire brigades and state emergency services.
  • Coordination of resources to respond to emergencies including management of Council’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) whilst it is active.

Main activities undertaken in the absence of the LEMO or during times of emergency when the EOC is activated:

  • Coordinating EOC activation and supporting the LEOCON in the absence of the LEMO.
  • Monitor weather and weather events and advise combat agencies of any forecast weather events – swells, tides, rain, winds.
  • Communication to MANEX and the on-call team to keep them updated with information relating to any potential events as well as updates during an event.
  • Provide advice to combat agencies whilst on duty in the EOC.

To be successful in this position you will have the following skills and attributes: 

  • An awareness of all of the roles and functions of Council business in the community. 
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Willingness to undertake training in emergency management.
  • Great organisational skills and be methodical in your approach.
  • Sound decision making skills under immense pressure such as emergency situations.
  • Ability to learn quickly, use computer software and equipment to quickly and accurately complete tasks under time pressure (often while multi-tasking). 
  • Availability across a 24/7 roster period including weekends and overnight shifts.
