The role

We are seeking an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to join our Community Development team. This role is responsible for building and maintaining strong connections with the Aboriginal community and will provide cultural advice and support to Council on Aboriginal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with local Aboriginal communities to understand their needs and perspectives.
  • Work with Aboriginal community to help plan and run significant cultural events such as NAIDOC and Sorry Day activities.
  • Facilitate communication between the Council and Aboriginal communities.
  • Promote cultural safety and inclusivity across Council.
  • Attend Aboriginal community network and group meetings.
  • Assist with implementing Council Plans and Strategies to ensure culturally appropriate outcomes.

About You:

  • Qualifications and or experience in Aboriginal Studies, Community Development (or similiar).
  • Strong connections with and understanding of local Aboriginal communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to cultural safety and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team to organise and deliver projects.

Salary: Salary range $72,000 - $79,000 p.a. plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience). 

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
