The role & you
MidCoast Council is seeking a skilled Compliance Officer to join their Environmental Health and Regulatory Services team. In this role, you will be part of a small dedicated team that investigates and addresses complaints using risk based principles, involving matters that are primarily of high significance, in terms of environmental harm, public health and safety and/or legislative non- compliance, The role involves engaging with stakeholders to seek adherence to statutory requirements, conducting inspections and initiating legal processes through Notices, Orders, and Directions as necessary. Your expertise in interpreting and applying legislation, coupled with strong analytical skills, will enable you to address complex issues and assist with negotiating outcome based solutions in an endeavour to resolve a broad range of compliance matters.
This position will require you to maintain accurate records, prepare detailed reports, and represent Council in legal proceedings.
The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Building Surveying, Town Planning, Environmental Science, or possess relevant experience as a Compliance Officer. Demonstrated experience in a compliance role within Local Government and a solid understanding of key legislation, including the Local Government Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, are essential.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $91,000 p.a. - $100,000 p.a. plus superannuation.
A vehicle arrangement will be made with the successful candidate for this role. Council will provide you with a leaseback vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use with no additional expenses in normal use.
Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
