The role & you

We’re excited to offer an internal opportunity for a motivated and skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team. This full-time role is a great chance to step into a position that directly supports the operation, maintenance, and improvement of Council’s water and sewerage infrastructure.

You’ll be working across multiple locations, supporting the performance and reliability of key assets such as water and sewerage pump stations, mains, reservoirs, and associated infrastructure. This position also plays an integral role in the delivery of upcoming pump station upgrades and a great opportunity to contribute to a major infrastructure project from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical assets including pumps, valves, and treatment infrastructure.

  • Work collaboratively with the WOP, WMAT, and Water Management teams to provide technical support and hands-on service delivery.

  • Assist in the development and mentoring of apprentices within the WOP team.

  • Ensure efficient planning and execution of work across multiple locations.

  • Participate in on-call and after-hours rosters as required.

What You’ll Bring

  • Mechanical or Fitter and Machinist Trade Certificate (or equivalent).

  • Strong experience with:

    • Centrifugal, submersible, and positive displacement pumps

    • Mechanical asset maintenance (SPS, STP, WTP, WPS)

    • Valve maintenance/replacement

    • Condition-based monitoring and planned maintenance techniques

  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with a focus on safety and service excellence.

  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks effectively.

Required Licences/Certifications

(Or willingness to obtain if not already held)

  • Forklift Truck Licence (LF)

  • Confined Space Entry certification

  • White Card (General Construction Induction)

  • First Aid Certificate

  • Asbestos Handling Certificate

  • Current Class MR Licence (HR desirable)

Salary: Salary range $74,750 - $82,200 p.a. plus superannuation. 

A water allowance of $131.66 per week will also apply. 

A to and from vehicle arrangement will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Location: Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the MidCoast Council Tuncurry Depot located on Gray Gum Road. You will be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
