The Opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking leader to coordinate our Water Quality & Process functions within the Water Management & Treatment team. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the quality, sustainability and performance of our drinking water, wastewater and recycled water systems across the MidCoast region.

As Coordinator Water Quality & Process, you will lead a high-performing team, oversee compliance and regulatory obligations, drive operational excellence, and contribute to long-term strategy and innovation in water cycle management.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, support and develop a dedicated team responsible for water quality and treatment process performance.

  • Oversee monitoring programs to ensure our water, sewage and recycled water systems meet licence conditions, regulatory requirements and environmental standards.

  • Act as the primary liaison with key regulators such as NSW Health, EPA, and DCCEEW, providing expert advice and incident management guidance.

  • Apply a risk-based approach to minimise risks to drinking water, treated effluent and biosolids.

  • Support strategy development focused on long-term sustainability, source management and quality improvement.

  • Provide technical expertise in energy management, procurement, environmental protection and operational problem-solving.

  • Lead investigations into process or environmental incidents and deliver clear, timely technical reporting.

  • Champion continuous improvement, quality assurance and a values-based team culture.

  • You’re an experienced technical professional with strong leadership capability and a passion for delivering safe, sustainable, high-quality water services.

    What you'll bring

    • A degree in Process, Chemical, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field.

    • Demonstrated experience in process or environmental management—ideally within the water industry.

    • A strong understanding of treatment processes, quality systems, and the regulated water environment.

    • Proven capability in leading people, fostering performance, and navigating change.

    • Excellent communication and reporting skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate positive outcomes.

    • Confidence undertaking field work when required and responding effectively to operational or environmental incidents.

    • A Class C Driver Licence.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $119,600 - $143,500p.a. plus superannuation.(dependent on skills and experience)

3.5% Civil Liability Allowance

A vehicle arrangement will be made with the successful candidate for this role. Council will provide you with a leaseback vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use with no additional expenses in normal use.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
