The role
Are you ready to kickstart your career in civil construction design? Join our Water Project Delivery Department as a Trainee and gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate IV in Civil Construction Design at TAFE NSW. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop practical skills across civil, hydraulic, and electrical drafting, while contributing to meaningful water infrastructure projects.
What you’ll do:

Undertake on-the-job practical training in civil construction design.

Support the Water Project Delivery team with drafting and design tasks across civil, hydraulic, and electrical works.

Apply design work instructions and industry practices to ensure quality and accuracy in outputs.

Participate in TAFE NSW studies as part of a structured learning pathway.
What we’re looking for:
-
Interest or background in Civil Construction Design.
- Someone who enjoys technology and computers, has a curiosity for design, science and maths, and is keen to develop their skills in civil construction design.

Ability to complete a TAFE Certificate IV course of study.

Willingness to participate in on-the-job and in-house training.

Completion of the Higher School Certificate (or equivalent).

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships internally and externally.

A valid driver’s licence (minimum P1) or ability to obtain one before February 2026.

Salary: The salary for this traineeship ranges from approximately $31,288 to $53,196 p.a. in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award. Your salary will be determined based on your age, qualifications, and any previous work experience. Superannuation (12%) is additional.
Location: Your normal place of work will be the Council Offices at 2 Biripi Way Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Full-time 35 hours per week over a 2.5-year period.
*The successful candidate will have the opportunity to continue their employment and roll-over into a Diploma Civil Construction Design after the 2.5-year period (subject to performance, commitment, and completion of study requirements)
