The role
MidCoast Council is seeking a dynamic and creative Change and Communication Specialist to join our Business Transformation Program (BTP). This program is reshaping the way we work across the organisation, and your role will be central in ensuring our internal communications are clear, engaging, and support staff through change. You’ll help drive understanding and adoption of new initiatives by delivering timely, relevant, and impactful messaging.
In this role, you’ll work closely with project teams, leadership, and staff to develop communication strategies that speak directly to the needs of different audiences. Your strong relationship building skills will allow you to understand the nuances of each project and tailor messages that resonate with targeted user groups. From planning and writing communications to managing delivery across a range of internal channels, you’ll ensure consistent, high quality messaging that supports the goals of the transformation.
You’ll create content for a wide range of formats, including email campaigns, internal newsletters, intranet updates, staff bulletins, all-staff forums, Q&A sessions with leaders, and management briefings. Your ability to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts will help guide improvements, with audience engagement insights shaping your approach. Staying organised and managing deadlines across multiple projects will be key to keeping staff well informed and aligned.
This is a communications role with real purpose. Your work will not only inform, but also inspire and support staff as they adapt to new systems and processes. By encouraging a positive response to change and helping build a more connected, informed workplace, you’ll play a vital part in the success of the Business Transformation Program.
With the Business Transformation Program well underway, we’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact. This is a unique opportunity to be at the heart of exciting organisational changes that directly enhance the delivery of services to the MidCoast region.
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in communications (or similar) and/or substantial experience in communications.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, tailoring communications to suit various audiences and project needs.
- Experience managing diverse communication channels, including email, newsletters, intranet, and staff forums, ensuring messages are cohesive and timely.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure all communications comply with governance and communications processes and are aligned with the program’s communications plan.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, delivering clear, engaging communications that drive positive engagement and support organizational change.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $85,964 p.a. plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience).
Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Fixed term contract to March 2026. Role open to full-time or part-time, depending on the individual.
