FOGO Community Education Project Manager
Job No:
MCC6602630
Location:
Taree NSW
MidCoast Council is embarking on an exciting transformation in how our community manages waste and we’re looking for a passionate, strategic and community‑minded leader to help drive it.
As our FOGO Community Education Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering a comprehensive community engagement and education program that supports the rollout and ongoing success of Council’s Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) service.
Reporting to the Communication, Engagement and Marketing Manager, you will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of engagement activities that help our community understand service changes, adopt new behaviours and use their bins correctly. This is a role with real impact, shaping environmental outcomes across the entire MidCoast region.
The role
In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive multi‑channel FOGO engagement project plan, overseeing its scope, milestones, risks, budget and reporting. You will work closely with Waste Services and a range of internal stakeholders to ensure communication is aligned, timely and effective across the organisation.
A key part of your work will involve delivering education and engagement activities that support the rollout of the FOGO MCROPS Processing Facility. As implementation milestones evolve, you will adapt plans to ensure the community receives accurate and relevant information. You will also identify priority audiences, manage emerging community issues and mitigate reputational risks through proactive planning and strong stakeholder relationships.
Your role will take you across the MidCoast LGA, where you will plan and deliver face‑to‑face engagement activities including pop‑ups, events, workshops and stakeholder briefings. You will use analytics and insights to continually refine and improve the effectiveness of the program.
As a leader, you will provide coaching, guidance and support to the FOGO Community Education Officer, contributing to departmental strategies, business plans and a broader culture of continuous improvement.
What you'll bring
- Degree qualifications in project management, sustainability, waste education, communications, community engagement or a related field or significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching and supporting staff through change.
- Proven experience delivering community engagement or education programs, ideally in environmental, sustainability or behaviour‑change contexts.
- Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience delivering face‑to‑face engagement activities such as events, workshops or community outreach.
- Excellent relationship‑building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience managing projects from development through to evaluation.
- IAP2 Australasia Certificate in Engagement (or willingness to obtain).
- A current Class C Driver’s Licence.
