The role & you 

We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance professional to join our team as Financial Strategy Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager Finance, this pivotal role leads the Finance Business Partnering team and is responsible for the organisation’s management accounting function. You will play a key role in shaping long, medium and short-term financial planning, delivering high quality internal financial reporting, and driving financial capability across MidCoast Council.

In this role, you will lead the development of a high performing, customer focused finance team that partners with business units to improve financial processes and enable informed decision making. You will oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate, insightful financial reports and analysis to guide executive planning and enhance financial accountability. A key focus will be the coordination and integration of Council’s budgeting and planning processes, including the delivery of key documents such as the Long-Term Financial Plan, 4-year budget estimates, and the Statement of Revenue Policy.

You will work closely with leaders across the organisation to model financial scenarios, assess the impact of service delivery changes, and ensure strategic alignment with the Community Strategic Plan and other corporate frameworks. The role also supports ongoing improvements to reporting tools, dashboards, KPIs and performance frameworks that enhance financial transparency and drive long-term sustainability.

To be successful in this role, you will hold degree level qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, along with a CA or CPA qualification (or an Australian recognised equivalent). You will bring a minimum of five years' experience in a senior finance role, with local government experience highly regarded. Your background will include demonstrated success in financial strategy development, particularly in the creation of long-term financial plans. You will also have strong experience in preparing monthly and quarterly budget review reports, along with a proven ability to enhance how financial information is analysed and presented to stakeholders.

Salary: Circa $130,000 – $154,000 plus 12% superannuation (subject to skills and experience)

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
