The role

MidCoast Council is seeking a Senior Finance Officer – Taxation Compliance to join our Financial Accounting Team.

Reporting to the Team Leader Financial Accounting, this role plays a critical part in ensuring Council meets its statutory taxation obligations with accuracy, integrity and confidence. You will be the subject matter expert for taxation compliance, providing specialist advice and oversight across Council.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and lodgement of BAS returns

  • Administration of Payroll Tax and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant taxation legislation and ATO requirements

  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting audits and reporting

  • Providing expert taxation advice across the organisation

This is a hands-on, trusted role suited to someone who enjoys ownership, precision and being relied upon as the “go-to” expert.

About you

You will bring:

  • A minimum Diploma-level qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline

  • Demonstrated experience in taxation compliance, ideally within a complex organisation

  • Strong technical knowledge across BAS, Payroll Tax and FBT

  • High attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to work autonomously

  • Experience in financial accounting or local government is desirable but not essential

Salary: Commencing salary circa $74,000 - $82,000 p.a. plus superannuation (Subject to skills and experience). 

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
