The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity is on offer to lead a Major Developments team within the City Growth & Development department on an interim basis until March 2025, reporting directly to the Manager City Growth & Development.
- Shape the future development of the greenfield areas within Melton
- Lead a team responsible for the assessment of a wide range of planning proposals
- Support, mentor and empower your team of Planners and others in the department
- Guide the implementation of process improvements
The role has the responsibility for providing leadership and support to Council’s Statutory Planning functions in overseeing a wide range of development proposals within Melton.
This position would suit experienced Planners who are seeking a leadership opportunity within the organisation. The position will require candidates to lead, mentor and empower a Planning team, working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
We are seeking candidates who are customer focussed, interested in process improvement and have the energy and passion to deliver quality outcomes for Council and our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the assessment of major planning applications particularly in the growth areas, using a facilitative project management approach.
- Provide guidance and supervision to other members of the Major Developments Team.
- Build strong and co-operative relationships to enable facilitation of appropriate major developments.
- Develop and manage provision of innovative assessment processes for major development applications.
- Supervise the preparation of reports and documentation in relation to planning permit applications.
- Provide advice to the public, developers and clients of Council in relation to the provisions of the Melton Planning Scheme, Council's policies and strategies and planning procedures.
- Undertake negotiations and consultation with developers and their various consultants and advisers to satisfactorily resolve development issues.
