Band 6 - Salary Range $95,073 to $103,531 per annum Pro Rata + 11.5% Super

The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting Health Promotion Officer position (reporting to the Team Leader, Community Health Promotion) within our Social Planning and Wellbeing team.

You will be a proactive and self-motivated person with demonstrated understanding of health promotion and primary prevention principles, and the ability to apply your knowledge in a growing and changing community. You will apply your stakeholder engagement, planning and evaluation skills on prevention-focused health and wellbeing priorities, as outlined in the Council and Wellbeing plan, such as:

  • The prevention of violence against women
  • Food systems and climate change
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Physical activity and active transport. 

In this role, you will build and maintain effective relationships across organisational and community stakeholders, and embed collaboration and inclusion applications, such as disability inclusion, systems thinking, community engagement and co-design, and intersectionality principles. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate initiatives which contribute to the Council and Wellbeing Plan 2021 – 2025, Equality and Respect 2030: A Strategy to prevent violence against women by promoting gender equity, and other relevant strategies and plans.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement evidence-based initiatives aimed at improving community health and wellbeing.
  • Develop and deliver capacity building initiatives to increase awareness and understanding of how to support the community in response to emerging health and social issues.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in health promotion, community development, public health, health science, with a relevant major and with experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of health promotion, social determinants of health, chronic disease prevention and preventing violence against women with an intersectional approach.
  • Community stakeholder engagement and management skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritise workload requirements and capacity.
  • Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating internal staff capacity building and community health and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
