About the role 

Merri-bek City Council has a fantastic opportunity for a Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team. We are looking for someone to take on a key role in the provision of financial services support and advice for our diverse organisation. The Finance Business Partner will build relationship with Councils key stakeholders to deliver a range of high quality financial analysis, advice and support to assist management decision making.

A key priority of this role is to add value and insight through business partnering with managers and budget owners across the business. You will deliver accurate and timely financial information, assist with preparing the 4-year budget and forecast, and ensure branches have the necessary support and information to enable effective decision making. This role will play a key role in financial system maintenance as well as preparing internal and external reporting.

As a Finance Business Partner, you will collaborate to develop strong partnerships and create value through insightful analysis. You will communicate confidently with both financial and non-financial individuals alike.

Previous experience in a high activity role with excellent interpersonal communication, email and written skills will be well regarded, alongside a strong commitment to customer service and attention to detail.

 

Skills and experience required to perform the role 

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting)
  • Completion of or working towards completion of CPA or CA
  • 1-3 + years of business partnering, management accounting or other relevant experience
  • High level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comfortably interact with management and executives
  • An effective team player, with the ability to work cooperatively and positively in a small team dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • A strong commitment to customer service
  • Excellent understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards
  • Ability to transfer accounting and financial knowledge to non-accounting managers and team leaders
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from internal and external customers and deal with difficult customers in a calm and professional manner
