MGM is a family-owned business with 65 years of experience within the bulk haulage industry. Servicing mining companies that require bulk haulage, storage, ship loading, and stockpile management services, across Western Australia, we employ over 500 employees. 

Due to the significant growth within our business, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our organisation, based in Bunbury, and play an integral role in the Commercial function and the future growth of the organisation.

We are seeking an accomplished Commercial Lawyer to support and guide the business in commercial arrangements and contractual matters. Ideally, the right candidate will be based in Bunbury however consideration will be given to Perth-based candidates. 

This role is full time however can be adapted to part time for the right candidate. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Draft and review a broad range of contract documents including transport and logistics services contracts, infrastructure agreements, and other commercial documents
  • Act as legal advisor in the contract negotiation process to achieve contracting objectives and compliance with relevant legislation
  • Provide guidance to the business in the interpretation of contractual terms and conditions, identification and assessment of risks and make recommendations to maximise commercial opportunities
  • Develop appropriate responses to deal with issues arising under contracts during the construction/operational phase, with a particular focus on early dispute resolution
  • Provide legal support in business development and procurement activities
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and the delivery of contract obligations
  • Act as a point of contact for internal legal consultation on commercial and contractual matters
  • Liaise with external legal providers as appropriate and analyse and interpret advice to ensure appropriate recommendations and course of action
  • Work closely with both internal and external customers to enhance customer experience and to drive continuous improvement in contracting disciplines

Skills & Experience:

  • A current Australian legal practitioner practicing certificate which will need to be maintained current
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in commercial law, contract management, and regulatory compliance. Experience in the Transport and Logistics industry will be highly regarded
  • Experience in the drafting and review of contracts, variations, and scope of work documents
  • Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills, including confident interaction with stakeholders at various levels of seniority
  • Professional attitude and experience in the developing of internal and external customer networks to create positive relationships and achievement of collaborative solutions
