Disability Support Worker

An intelligent, well-read female living independently with a friendly and ageing German Shepherd in Baringa is seeking experienced, professional and reliable new team members to join her support team. The individual seeking support lives with a Musculoskeletal condition called Ehlers-Danlos, PTSD and other medical and cognitive challenges, and requires support to sustain independent living and to reconnect with her community.

The Role:

  • In-home Support
  • Community access
  • Personal Care
  • Support with specific projects

Shifts:

  • Weekday and Weekends – Daytime Hours between 8am and 5pm (4/5 hour shifts)
  • Ad-hoc shifts requiring longer support for excursions / overnights
  • Flexibility / availability to pick up additional shifts as needed

The Successful applicant will:

  • Be mature, organised, intuitive, adaptable, enthusiastic and encouraging
  • Demonstrate ability to assist person receiving support to maintain organisation within her own life & have an excellent foundational understanding of domestic hygiene & traditional cooking skills
  • Understand the fundamental nuances of good support
  • Have excellent attention to detail and willingness to learn the person’s in-home processes
  • Work autonomously when needed, while also being able to identify when more direct communication is required to provide encouragement to stay on task
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be an active listener
  • Demonstrate a high level of both patience, and information retention

Requirements:

  • +3 years experience in a disability support role
  • Happy to wear a mask while providing in-home support
  • Happy to be around / feed and walk large dog
  • Open Driver’s license and own vehicle with insurance
  • Current First Aid Certificate & CPR
  • NDIS Worker Screening/Yellow Card (or willing to obtain)
  • Blue Care (Working with Children Card) (or willing to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (or willing to obtain)
  • Live within reasonable travelling distance
  • Able to work in a smoke free environment
  • Flexibility to pick up additional hours when needed
