Position Objectives

This position is responsible for assisting with Council’s emergency preparedness and supporting delivery of municipal fire management functions.   

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Support the management and administration of the Northern Grampians Shire Municipal
  • Emergency Management Plan (MEMP), sub-plans, and other emergency management plans.
  • Support the building of Council’s emergency management capabilities and assist with the development of strategic and operational plans which include measurable improvements.
  • Assist with the implementation of Council’s emergency management procedures and practices to ensure Council is prepared for emergency incidents.
  • Provide project assistance to the Emergency Management functions of Council and the region.
  • Provide administrative support to the Emergency Management functions of Council, including emergency management committees.
  • Support training for council staff in emergency roles.
  • Undertake the duties of assistant Municipal Fire Prevention Officer including fire hazard inspections and the issuing of Fire Prevention Notices..
  • Undertake the role/s of Emergency Management Liaison Officer and/or Municipal Emergency Coordination Centre Support during an emergency incident as required.
  • Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbent’s skill, competence, and training. 

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Formal qualifications in emergency management, business administration or project management, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced, demanding position with an ability to follow instructions and think clearly.

  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders 
  2. Demonstrated ability to identify innovative practice and implement continuous improvement.
  3. Demonstrated experience in working as part of a team to develop and deliver projects and training.
  4. Basic knowledge of the Victorian emergency management arrangements including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery
