Salary from: $99,240.96 to $118,503.04 pa + 10.5% superannuation 

+ $1,000 pa transport allowance 

35 hours per week with access to flexi time 

(or 28 hours for the right person, depending on skills/experience)

 

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD.

We are seeking someone with the skills and experience to fill an exciting new role in North Sydney responsible for leading strategic economic development planning activities and for delivering engagement with the business sector.  If you are passionate about stakeholder engagement, working with the business community and stimulating tourism opportunities, this is the role you have been looking for.

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 71,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a vibrant CBD.  We have an engaged business community and are looking for someone to work with them to meet their changing, emerging and diverse needs.

Key responsibilities: 

  • develop business networks and foster connections between stakeholders, including government agencies, private investors/developers and local businesses to improve business engagement outcomes
  • provide advice in the design and delivery of Council led engagements/consultation to increase business participation
  • work collaboratively with all Council departments to ensure projects/services contribute to improved business engagement and economic development outcomes
  • coordinate implementation of Council’s Economic Development Strategy and Visitor Economy Strategy 


Based at the Council Chambers, located in a beautiful park setting, close to public transport, bicycle routes and recreational facilities.

Core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am and 5pm, with access to flexible working/working from home arrangements can be considered for up to two days per week.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with great people skills and can demonstrate that they meet the following selection criteria:

 

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Business, Communications or Community Engagement or Economic Development/Tourism Marketing) and/or significant experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated understanding of business engagement/economic development in a Government context, including experience in project managing delivery of strategies and programs with quality outcomes
  • High level interpersonal and networking skills with a proven ability to build and maintain effective business relationships
  • Excellent written communication and research skills, and demonstrated ability to prepare strategic documents and reports
  •  Ability to prioritise and work to tight timeframes on multiple tasks with a degree of flexibility and confidentiality and perform well under pressure in a busy team environment
  •  Proven ability to develop innovative and creative ways to engage with stakeholders and implement measurable place activation outcomes

Desirable

  • Demonstrated political acuity, diplomacy and sensitivity with local political, community and business leaders.
  • Experience in a similar role in local government
  • Vaccinated against COVID-19
