WHS Manager
Job No:
NSYD490
Location:
North Sydney
North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD. Our aim is to ensure North Sydney remains a welcoming, well-designed, safe and beautiful environment for residents, workers and visitors.
The Role
As the WHS Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing and continuously improving our WHS and Wellbeing Management Systems. You’ll ensure we meet all legislative requirements, while also fostering a proactive, positive safety culture across the organisation. This includes managing workers compensation and return to work programs, leading incident investigations, supporting our emergency preparedness, and guiding Council through audits and inspections.
You’ll work closely with managers, contractors, and internal teams to make safety practical, visible, and part of how we work. Whether it's reviewing policies, supporting wellbeing initiatives, or briefing senior leaders on risk and compliance, your work will touch every part of the organisation. You’ll also represent Council in dealings with SafeWork NSW and other key external bodies.
This is a role for someone who is both strategic and practical—comfortable setting policy, but just as confident walking a site, delivering training, or helping someone return to work after an injury.
The Person
You’re a WHS professional with a strong understanding of legislation, a solutions-focused mindset, and the ability to get things done. You know how to balance compliance with culture, and how to partner with others to influence change. You’ve led WHS programs in complex environments, managed workers compensation and return-to-work processes, and worked closely with regulators and stakeholders. You’re confident with systems, reporting, and continuous improvement—and you lead by example.
