Manager Trades and Fleet Services
Job No:
NSYD511
Location:
North Sydney
Are you passionate about maintaining public assets and enhancing community spaces? As the Manager of Trades and Fleet Services, you’ll ensure that trades, fleet operations, and public domain services are delivered responsively and consistently, enabling exceptional open spaces and public amenities across North Sydney.
North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD.
The role
As Manager of Trades and Fleet Services, you’ll ensure that infrastructure trades—including carpentry, plumbing, painting—alongside the mechanical workshop, cleaning services, public domain lighting, and contractor‑led essential services such as air conditioning and fire systems, are delivered seamlessly, reliably and in alignment with regulatory and community expectations.
In this dynamic role, you'll shape the future of our maintenance programs by designing robust recurrent service schedules, developing and maintaining service‑level agreements and KPIs, and implementing WHS frameworks that foster continuous operational improvement. You’ll oversee procurement strategies and contract management—from drafting documentation and risk assessments to supervising project delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.
Managing the fleet is equally central to your responsibilities. You’ll develop and lead our annual operational plant maintenance program and replacement schedule, assist with purchasing specifications, and analyse fleet data to optimise performance, reduce downtime, and minimise whole‑of‑life costs. Your recommendations will support strategic decision‑making and you'll help shape policies around charge‑out rates, operator training, and risk management for plant equipment.
The person
We’re looking for someone who combines strong leadership in trades and fleet management with strategic, analytical thinking and excellent stakeholder engagement. Your ability to conceive and refine processes, manage multi‑disciplinary teams, and deliver operational excellence will be crucial to the ongoing care of our assets and public spaces.
