Looking to apply your accounting skills where they truly matter? Council is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Planning and Reporting Accountant to support the delivery of high-quality financial planning and reporting across the organisation.
North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD.
The role
The Financial Planning and Reporting Accountant is responsible for preparing accurate, timely and compliant financial plans and reports to support Council’s decision-making and strategic objectives. The role contributes to the preparation of the Annual Budget, Long-Term Financial Plan and Quarterly Budget Review Statements, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and the Office of Local Government Code of Accounting Practice.
The position maintains the integrity of Council’s budgeting and financial systems, prepares variance analysis and management reports for operational and capital budgets, and coordinates financial information from service units to ensure consistency and accuracy. The role also supports managers by explaining financial reports, assisting with budget management, and providing ad hoc analysis as required. In addition, the position prepares reconciliations and supporting documentation for statutory reporting, audits and Council’s annual financial statements.
The person
You are an analytical and detail-focused accounting professional with experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting. You hold tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance, with CPA or CA qualifications or progressing towards them.
You have strong analytical and communication skills, enabling you to interpret financial information and explain it clearly to non-financial stakeholders. You are well organised, able to manage competing priorities, and will work collaboratively across the organisation to support strong financial governance and informed decision-making.
Experience in local government or a regulated environment is advantageous.

Salary Range: $98,226 to $117,291 per annum + 12% superannuation + $1,000 pa Transport allowance
