The role
As Service Unit Manager – Corporate Governance, reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will lead Council’s corporate governance, risk, and compliance functions and manage a team of 13. You will support the Mayor and Councillors through effective induction, professional development, and well-run decision-making forums. You will oversee Council and committee meetings, manage agendas and minutes, and ensure decisions meet legislative and governance requirements.
You will lead Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework and ensure strong alignment between strategy, business planning, and reporting. You will also oversee enterprise risk management, internal audit, and the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).This role plays a key part in protecting Council’s reputation and integrity. You will champion ethical behaviour, transparency, access to information, and fraud and corruption prevention across the organisation.
This role will work closely with the CEO, Executive Team, Directors, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
This leadership role will suit someone who is comfortable operating at a senior level, but who also understands the detail and discipline required to make governance work in practice with practical, clear and trusted advice.
The person
The ideal person is an experienced governance professional with strong judgement and high integrity.
You understand local government in NSW and are confident working with elected officials or boards and can interpret legislation, translate it into clear advice, and apply it in real-world situations.
To be successful, you will have experience in leading teams, building capability, and improving systems. You know how to balance compliance with good decision-making and culture.
You are organised, calm under pressure, and comfortable managing competing priorities through taking ownership and setting a strong example.

Salary on offer is approximately: $140,000–$170,000 pa (negotiable based on experience) + 12% superannuation
