The role 

We are currently seeking highly motivated casual Learn to Swim Instructors to join our new North Sydney Olympic Pool (NSOP) team. The successful applicants will be responsible for the professional delivery of swimming lessons and aquatic programs. As a Learn to Swim Instructor, you will conduct lessons that align with industry standards whilst fostering a respect and love of the water in students of all ages. The role also provides occasion to participate in peripheral aquatic programs and activities such as hosting birthday parties. 

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be part of the core team that welcomes the North Sydney community back into the pool. You will be an original member of one of Sydney’s most iconic sites, making a difference and contributing to the success of the swim school from its inception.

Sessions will be running 7 days a week, Monday to Sunday.  

 
The person 

Learn to Swim Instructors provide all students with a safe, enjoyable, and engaging learning environment playing a vital role in saving lives. This role will suit a person with demonstrated experience and knowledge of swimming technique with a focus on water safety skills. The ideal applicant has a commitment to consistency and quality in teaching and does so using their excellent communication skills, sense of humour and passion.  

The Learn to Swim instructor will thrive on creating and maintaining positive relationships, whilst investing in the best outcomes for each student.  A desire for continuous learning and a demonstrated ability to be flexible and work with others to achieve best practice outcomes will be highly regarded

Essential Criteria 
  • Hold current qualifications recognised in NSW as a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (Austswim / Royal Life Saving / Swim Australia).
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Ability to commit to the same shifts per week on an ongoing basis.
  • Be able to satisfy the requirement of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulations 2013 and provide a current NSW Working with Children Clearance; and adhere to Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
 
Desirable Criteria 
  • Hold current extension qualifications in the following areas:
    • Infants and Preschool
    • Adults
    • Competitive Strokes
    • Access and Inclusion
  • 6 + months teaching experience on a regular basis.
  • Broad knowledge of Learn to Swim from Infant swimming to Squads.
  • Experience and knowledge of local government practices, regulations, and policies.
  • Additional experience or qualifications in the leisure industry, such as certifications in business management, fitness, customer service or creche, are advantageous.

CASUAL 

Hourly rate from: $41.07 to $49.05 per hour (incl. casual loading) + 12% superannuation 

Weekdays from 9am to 12pm and 3pm to 7pm 

Weekends from 8am to 1pm 

Weekend penalties apply 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Group interviews will be on Saturday July 11 
  • Must be available for group staff induction on Saturday August 1
