The role 

We are currently seeking 3 x Casual Baristas to join the newly redeveloped North Sydney Olympic Pool team.

The role is responsible for preparing and serving high quality coffee and beverages while delivering excellent customer service within the Café and Gelato Bar at North Sydney Olympic Pool.

The person 

Are you a people-focused food and beverage professional who thrives in a team environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer experiences?

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare high-quality coffee and beverages by dosing, grinding, tamping, and extracting espresso correctly, steaming milk to the appropriate texture (including alternative milks), adjusting settings during service, and ensuring consistent presentation across hot and cold drinks.
  • Prepare smoothies and cold beverages by accurately measuring ingredients, operating blending equipment safely, and delivering consistent taste, texture, and presentation across all drinks.
  • Prepare fresh juices by washing and cutting produce, operating juicing equipment, ensuring correct portioning to minimise waste, and maintaining high standards of freshness and quality throughout service.
  • Open the coffee station by setting up and warming equipment, calibrating grinders, preparing milk and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels, and cleaning and organising work areas for service readiness.
  • Open the cold beverage station by setting up and preparing ingredients, ensuring equipment is clean and functional, and stocking cups, lids, and packaging for smooth service.
  • Deliver efficient service by preparing and prioritising coffee, smoothies, juices, and cold beverages, communicating clearly with front-of-house staff, and maintaining workflow to minimise wait times during peak periods.
  • Maintain coffee machine cleanliness by regularly cleaning group heads, steam wands, drip trays and grinders, performing backflushing, and keeping the barista station clean and well-maintained at all times.
  • Maintain cold beverage equipment and cleanliness by regularly cleaning and sanitising blenders and utensils, managing waste, and thoroughly cleaning and disassembling equipment at the end of each shift.
  • Complete closing duties by thoroughly cleaning and backflushing coffee machines and grinders, sanitising all cold beverage equipment, disposing of milk and unused ingredients safely, restocking stations, and shutting down all equipment in accordance with procedures.
  • Support stock control by assisting with stocktakes, accurately recording levels, monitoring daily usage of beverage ingredients, reporting low stock or discrepancies, ensuring FIFO rotation, and maintaining organised, clearly labelled storage areas.

Essential Criteria 
  • Demonstrated experience preparing coffee in a café environment
  • Demonstrated experience in a fast-paced customer service environment with a passion and commitment to providing efficient, friendly and welcoming service standards.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to satisfy the requirements of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulations 2013 and provide a current NSW Working with Children Check clearance; and adhere to Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • National Police Clearance.
  • Flexible to work across a seven (7) day week operation with morning shifts starting from 6:00am and closing shifts finishing at 8:00pm. 
 
Desirable Criteria 
  • Formal barista training
  • Experience working with POS systems
  • Experience working within a high-volume or multi-outlet hospitality venue
  • Previous kitchen or hospitality experience
  • Vaccinated against COVID-19

CASUAL 

Hourly rate from: $41.07 to $49.05 per hour (incl. casual loading) + 12% superannuation 

Weekend penalties apply
